By Stephen Nakrosis

Tropical Storm Philippe, which is bringing heavy rains to the U.S. and British Virgin Islands Wednesday, is likely to move over eastern New England and parts of Atlantic Canada this weekend, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.

At 10 a.m. ET, the storm was located 220 miles north-northwest of St. Thomas, heading north-northwest at 7 mph. Philippe was packing maximum sustained winds of 45 mph.

A tropical storm watch has been issued in Bermuda.

On its current track, Philippe is expected to move over parts of Canada and New England this weekend, likely as a post-tropical cyclone. The NHC said those areas should be prepared for the possibility of strong winds and heavy rains.
